About Kristina

Hi, I’m Kristina, the girl behind the beauty & personal style blog, Pretty Shiny Sparkly. Pretty Shiny Sparkly is my outlet celebrating the feminine aesthetic–and a sparkly thing or two. The blog was born out of the ashes of a family tragedy (click here to read my story–I am told you will need tissues). With no background in fashion more than a tween-age obsession for fashion catalogs and magazines before the internet, I am on a mission to celebrate the “everygirl” outside of the pages of magazines. I am on a journey, exploring my own sense of personal style, and hopefully (cross my fingers!) lend some inspiration. I am by no means an expert in fashion, nor do I ever claim to be one.
I am addicted to Shellac nail polish and the smell of glossy magazines. It’s a problem. I share my home with my wonderful husband, “HB”. I’m a voracious blog & magazine reader, and watch YouTube videos in the morning while drinking British tea (PG Tips, yo).
When I’m not changing my nail polish or tottering around in heels, I’m a full time resident physician in Anesthesiology.
Feel free to check me out on Twitter, Facebook, Bloglovin’, and YouTube.

Hey everyone! Welcome to my style & beauty blog. I'm kind of, teeny-tiny, slightly, crazily, obsessed with anything sparkly. I'm also obsessed with makeup. Are we in the circle of trust right now? Because if we are, I'd tell you that I use this blog as rationalization for spending way too much money on both of these things.

yea i’ve begun to shop online more as well ….. used to never do it with shoes particularly but now i’m like, i’d rather get them online then go around the store in the crowds!!
Stumbled upon your blog via the Blog Catalog. I love your ultra feminine style that remains pretty yet not fussy. From one southern fashion blogger to another, hello!
U toe pitty!
please ignore my ridiculous mother who thinks that baby talk translates in print phonetically.
Hi Kristina!
I’m new to your blog, but I’m an instant fan. As a fellow Southern belle med student who has a magnetic attraction to all things pretty and sparkly, I commend you on keeping up with this endeavor! I hope you find your calling in medicine, and don’t let the stress of it all kill your feminine spirit! :)
I’m so jealous of your lenses!!! Drooool.
hi kristina! just thought that i’d introduce myself because we have the same name! i love your blog! i esp. like the title ;)
Here’s to the beautiful short gals! (I am barely 5’1″ and proud of it!) Even though my own blog is related to travel and not necessarily fashion, I can’t stop myself from reading your blog, I will probably even join your BDIB challenge. Kudos to you Kristina!

I can’t say for certain as it’s a while ago now but I’m 99.9% sure that the first reader survey comment you’ve listed was me! (:
(And if it wasn’t, I agree!)
Love your blog!

So happy to have found this page! Looks great and I love your about me!
Hi Kristina, My name is Kirsten. I stumbled upon your blog through Pinterest a few weeks ago and have been following you ever since! You are so inspiring Kristina :) It’s amazing what incredible things God can make out of some of the most difficult experiences in our lives. I really enjoy everything about your blog, your fashion, etc! And it is so cool that you are going to be a Dr. next May. Good for you! I’m in graduate school right now while working full-time (also graduate in May! Woohoo!) and this is one of the busiest, hardest, most stressful times in my life. But being able to escape from the studying, work, and drama in life to this blog, pinterest, etc makes it so much more bearable! Thanks so much for starting this blog and for being such a special gift from God! I’m sure your brother would be proud of you.
Hey Kristina, I wanted to know what kind of a doctor you wanted to be? I’m currently in college to become a doctor as well….
I just discovered Sam Edelman recently and feel soooo behind on my fashion knowledge but am happy I fell upon this site. Also, congrats future MD! ; – )
I really like the updated personal “who am I” blurb on the opening page as well as the updated “About Me” section. Just wanted to tell ya!
Thank you very much, Jamie!
I just watched the glitter video. So sweet!
When I worked on Barbie at Mattel, we were always slathering glitter all over everything. I would find it in the oddest places, like my car. I called it “the kiss of Barbie”
Came across your blog via Kendi Everyday & I absolutely love it! Will be adding it to my daily reads for sure :)
Congratulations on your graduation!!!
Keep up the good job on the site. I am student too… All the time people ask me; how could you go to university and run a website. LOL I guess most people don’t understand online hobbies.
Anyway, you have lots of interesting fashion information here. While I am not in to fashion, I think it is a great that the site is maintain by a busy student. :)
Hi! Just found your blog and wanted to tell you that you are an inspiration to me. There aren’t many doctor/fashion bloggers out there (that I’ve come across, anyway). I’m in school to be a doctor now and started blogging as a way to escape some of the stress that a full course load entails. I didn’t know if fashion blogging was appropriate for a doctor to do and felt guilty (silly, I know!) for taking time away from my studies to focus on something so seemingly trivial. But it makes me happy. And reading your blog shows me that it’s possible to succeed at more than one passion. So thank you! I’m glad I found Pretty Shiny Sparkly! :)
Aw, thank you so much Carrie. xx
I’m about to start medical school at Baylor College of Medicine this year, and I am so happy I stumbled upon this blog!! Proof that a career in medicine doesn’t mean you have to become a slave to your career :)
Wonderful, I graduated from the school across the street! ;-)
I am a dr too a psychiatrist to be precise.Thinking of starting a blog too love your’s !
Thank you Saadia! Make the leap – it’s so worth it if you are really passionate about it :)
I am really happy that I discovered your blog! I’m a doctor(optometrist) who blogs about fashion/beauty as well(not nearly as well as you do though!). It’s so awesome to know I’m not the only one out there!
That’s fabulous! Our kind are slowly but surely coming out of the woodwork! :)
hi christina – thank you *so* much for including the glossarie in your links list. i am really touched + could not be more thrilled (since i basically consider you blogging royalty :))! xo
ahh! kristina with a “k” – fail! (my baby sis is with a “ch” – force of habit, so sorry!)
Anytime Lara! I really enjoy browsing your blog and catching up on the latest beauty loveliness! :)
Hello Kristina,
I first read of your tragic loss in “The Quill” Magazine. Yes, I am also an Alpha Xi alumni (Indiana Univ. of PA, Delta Nu). I was humbled by your resilience and humility, and how you turned your grief into something so fulfilling. I cannot say that I have ever been in your shoes, but I do happen to have a special needs child for whom I carry a lot of worry in my heart. My son Jacob has Asperger’s and suffers from anxiety, and he struggles in most social situations. Not to brag, but he is beyond intelligent and such a kind soul! But at fourteen, an age when most kids are in their “social prime,” he really has no true friends, and he seems to isolate himself in school. I often fear that he may wonder down a similar path of that of your brother, only because he may feel that he doesn’t have anyone to turn to. Much like your mother, I have tried the counseling and social skills groups, amongst other resources, but it is becoming more difficult during these teenage years. If you have any suggestions or ideas, they are quite welcome. I am so sorry for your loss, and I hope you continue to heal through your website. You seem to be a remarkable person, and I’m sure your brother is smiling down on you from Heaven! Thank you for touching the lives of others!
Xi love, Holly
