How to Style A Leather Jacket

Maje jacket (similar, in a gorgeous red) // Coach crossbody bag (similar) // Alexander McQueen scarf (similar) // New York & Company turtleneck // Topshop jeans // UGG boots // Lips: Tarte tarteist Lip Paint in "Namaste"

It took all of about two minutes for me to receive this gorgeous jacket in the mail before I decided I had to wear it, and I had to wear it out now. Luckily, my empty-nesting mother wasn't super busy at the moment, and I needed to pick up Gidget (my dog) from her house anyway, so--win! I think she did a great job for a first-time outfit-shooter, don't you?

This supple lambskin leather jacket is by Maje, a french clothing designer, and this is my first introduction to their designs. I could have sworn it was a Spanish company but it appears I am dead wrong!

I love this jacket for its weight, heft, the quality of the zippers, the luxe ribbed detailing, and the way it sits on the shoulders. It is, to me, the perfect leather jacket. It's quite pricey but I snagged this for 50% off!

Also, I totally wore my crossbody strap underneath my jacket to be a little bit more like Alexa Chung (because who doesn't).

Scroll down for information on how to style any outfit using the "third-piece" rule!

I read this very helpful article online the other day about how to style any outfit, using the "third-piece rule". What it involves is, apart from your shoes and jewelry, any outfit should be comprised of three pieces. Your top is your first piece, your skirt/pants are your second piece, and the third piece is that finishing element that makes any outfit put together. It could be a scarf, it could be a jacket (as above), a vest--you name it. Many retailers have caught on to this stylish advice and now mandate it for their retail employees.
