Cheesecake and Pears

It’s funny, pears and apples are among my least favorite foods on this planet, yet I am obsessed with decorating with them (faux ones, of course! and the more sparkles the better, naturally) I have a basket full of the most incredibly realistic green apples (Granny Smith?) that I purchased individually from Pier 1. I also have an assortment of sparkly pears which I have arranged on a clear glass cakestand (both from Target) serving as my coffee table center piece!

It seemed only fair that my sparkly gold pears had their time in the limelight while I was dressed up in shades of beige and gold. Gold is such a happy color, and universally flattering! Try it on anytime your mood is less than stellar, or you’re feeling iffy about what to wear when going out (drinks, dinner, night on the town!). I guarantee you it will up your cool factor at least 300% (fake statistics don’t lie!). Wear gold (pair it with white for a lush look, like these Blank Denim jeans!) and marvel in the extra touch of glam it gives you. Fashion isn’t just how you look. It’s how it makes you feel!

I have a confession to make, and I’m just going to come right out and say it. I’m addicted to the raspberry cheesecake at – gulp — Olive Garden. Yep, no lie. I know it’s not the fanciest or chicest of restaurants, but I don’t care. I live for their raspberry cheesecake. Oh, and their classic lasagna. Yum! Here I am enjoying a slice (kindly brought home by HB).

At first I thought these jeans were going to be too tight, but they loosened up nicely with a bit of wear. Admittedly it can be very very intimidating to even consider wearing white (or in this case, off-white) pants of any style. But when paired with the right color scheme, they blend in with the whole outfit, rather than draw attention to your legs. And I generally like to practice the Benjamin Franklin art of “everything in moderation” when it comes to outfit pieces. So to offset the tight skinny jeans, I opted for a flowy, loose gold top I’ve had in my closet forever.

What do you think of the new look on PSS? What do you think of the ensemble? Love to hear – whether you’re new to PSS or a regular visitor – I would love to hear from you.

XOXO

Love the new blog look. Just a little texture layering of neutrals made the whole difference. Love the top, hate the jeans. Sorry.

You and the photographer are awesome as usual!

I like the ensemble, but I'm loving the way the pictures were shot. They have a very "modern day Betty Draper" feel to them.

Good work! Xi love!

you know, I don't really mind the jeans as much as I thought I would. You found a way to make them look grown and classy. Good work! Love the top. Oh, you're insane for loathing apples and pears. YUM!

Chief Blonde prompted this question:

What is your natural hair color? I know you're scandinavian heritage (based on that really obvious last name lol) but i know you dye your hair.

Anywho. I like the pattern of the top. And i like the jeans. Lighter color denim is so hot right now. I have a pair of acid wash skinnies myself.

yes I am a natural blonde, but it's more of an ash-blonde. I'm considering dying it darker to avoid the hassle of highlighting these days!!

Olive Garden is my favorite place to eat! I know – it seems so tacky or whatever – but their food is so darn good!

Well Kristina, I did it based on your encouragement. Posted an outfit post here: http://stillblondeafteralltheseyears.com/2010/07/…

I'll never be able to carry off the close-ups that you can and it will take awhile for my photographer to get the lighting and arty shots that yours gets–but I just dove in. Hope I'm not making an idiot out of myself!

I love the outfit….gorgeous top. I've been searching for a perfect pair of destroyed white denim this summer and I haven't found a pair that was quite right for me. I do admire yours though.
