Friday Faves + Links a la Mode + NYFW

Things I’ve really been into this week:

Metallic nail polish (right now it’s a shimmery gold by Sally Hansen called “Gilty Pleasures”…which I’m planning to top off with one of my favorite brands deborah lippmann, in “Boom Boom Pow”).

L’Oreal Youth Code, which VOGUE magazine sent to me to try out last month. I used it religiously in Norway where the air was drier, but now that I’m back in Houston I stick to just the ah-mazing eye cream (which has a metal applicator, which cools & de-puffs eyes) and the serum. Anything more and my already combination skin would just erupt into a frustrating display of oil glands v. Kristina.

I must say Youth Code is perfect for our generation because I know I find myself browsing the aisles of my drugstore, looking at all the Olay Regenerist stuff, and wondering if it might be good to start early with anti-aging skincare. But then I immediately stop myself after thinking (in horror) that anti-aging products would be too heavy and moisturizing for my acne-prone face. So I never bought anything. Now that I have Youth Code, which has proven ingredients that are geared specifically toward prevention in younger skin, I don’t feel so bad about layering creams on my face at night. I just use it sparingly.

Have you tried a matte topcoat over your metallic polish? I'm obsessed! I've been putting it over Essie's "Steel-ing the Scene" and it makes my nails look like brushed nickle. LOVE!

And I'll have to look into L'Oreal's Youth Code. I used to use Neutrogena's Anti-Wrinkle, Anti-Blemish lotion, which was ideal, but I can't find it anymore. Us young-uns need skincare, too!

    • http://prettyshinysparkly.com Kristina

Oooh I'm gonna have to try that sometime Chelsea!

Can't wait to see in you NYC! And I too find myself swooning over metallics and glittery nail beds!

    SO pretty :)

    Xo,

I love it! I absolutely cannot wait for NYC!!!

I'm really excited about the L'Oreal Youth Code products too. I've yet to give them a try, but as soon as I make it to the drugstore, I'm definitely going to pick the kit up. It's chilly and drying here in the northeast, so I'm going to hope the ultra-moisturizing products won't break me out. If they do, I'll take your advice and stick to the eye cream.

p.s. I have an unhealthy obsession with Sally Hanson nail polishes. They work so well compared to a lot of the more expensive brands I've tried, and they infinitely cheaper. What's not to love, right?

    • http://prettyshinysparkly.com Kristina

If it's dry up there, then I recommend trying the day/night cream or more!

Hey girl!! I feel the same way about trying to do anti-aging but I also battle very acne prone skin as well! I have not tried this cream, but I have discovered a couple at Origins which I love! I was really hoping to go to NYC and I would love to meet everyone and esp you since we are even from the same city!! But I am still not sure!! I know the conference will be SO MUCH FUN!!! Maybe we can try to meet up some other time back in Houston if I do not get to attend!

Have a fabulous weekend and Congrats on the IFB roundup this week!

Agree with you on the obsession of gold nail polish w/ glitter–I've kept going back to that with my nails since like two weeks before Christmas. Got to enjoy the sparkle season while we can right? At least until Valentines Day if you ask me…

    • http://prettyshinysparkly.com Kristina

I love it, I absolutely do!

I love it – I picked up the last bottle at Neiman Marcus in my city today, and it's gorgeous! Especially on top of the champagne gold.

And thank you SO MUCH for the nomination!! You are too sweet Meera!

yay Kristina! you'll have a blast at IFB. i haven't actually been, but i watched the LiveStream last September, read dozens of recaps, and it sounded like a great event!

i loooove that Deborah Lippmann polish, it would be a perfect top coat. must buy it.

    • http://prettyshinysparkly.com Kristina

I watched the livestream last september too and loved it. you need to buy this polish, it's amazing! I'd recommend a gold base coat though, because it's pretty much just glitter. :)
