Greek Yogurt + Agave Nectar + Tamales

{ chocolate chips + plain greek yogurt + agave nectar }

{ slow steamed tamales }

A healthy snack of greek yogurt (16g of protein!) sweetened with agave nectar and a little indulgence with some chocolate chips…

…and a set-and-leave-it dinner consisting solely of tamales with a side of ketchup. I placed the tamales in our asparagus steamer and it worked like a charm. It’s better to use a steamer with tamales rather than simmer-steaming them in a big covered pan, because they’ll get less soggy that way. I had the folded ends down, with the cut sides facing up (these tamales happened to come cut in half). They steamed for 45 minutes (from frozen) and were absolutely delicious and really hit the spot! They will be a new staple in our repertoire of quick and easy dinners.

      believe it or not I'd never tried greek yogurt OR agave nectar…but i'd heard so much about the benefits of both (greek yogurt has an AMAZING amount of protein and thus keeps you fuller, longer, and agave nectar is a great sweetener much like honey but with a much lower glycemic index — and is purely fructose) that I simply had to try it!

      plus….a little chocolate makes anything taste better. next time I'm going to try fresh fruit!

    Don't forget the granola on top of your yogurt! I love a little crunch with the mixture of sweet and salty :)

    Does plain greek yogurt taste any different than say, dannon plain? I've tried plain dannon with honey, cinnamin, and fruit and couldn't get paste the weird tang! Makes me wonder if the greek version tastes better!

      They both taste tangy to me! Lots of honey or agave nectar should cancel it

      out though. That's why agave nectar is a healthier choice – lower glycemic

      index, but sweeter than honey so you can use less. I'm with ya on the tang,

      though.
