Half Moon Nails

I’m a big fan of the half-moon trend, and after reading this gal’s post about lilac & gold nails, I knew I had to apply the color pairing to half moon nails. Now, I’d never tried this before, but I knew the basics (use notebook reinforcement stickers, etc.). But I never realized just how truly difficult this is for the impatient in life. I messed up my left thumb so many times, I basically tried to exclude it from most of the shots you’ll see below. I eventually got it all fixed, once I forced myself to wait long enough for the gold to actually dry.

So, lesson learned: BE PATIENT! You will reap what you sow.

Sure, it’s not perfect, but it will be with more practice.

…Too bad my Chanel Fall 2011 nail polishes arrive at my doorstep tomorrow (that’s Peridot and Graphite). Guess what I’ll be doing?

I love that color combo and the new Chanel lacquers are sure to look even more amazing! Swoon…..looks like I'll be testing my patience in the days ahead!

Thank you for the tutorial I am really going to try this, I have the new Chanel fall colors as well so this will look amazing with them.

I've never seen the stickers used for this mainicure, usually people are just like "I hope you have a steady hand!" Pretty genius!

I've been dying to try this. I appreciate your honesty about the level of difficulty! Your nails do look awesome, though. After I shed my latest SH Salon Effects, I need to get some reinforcement stickers and give it a whirl!

Hey Kristina! You should definitely order this stuff called Kiesque Liquid Palisade. http://liquidpalisade.com/indexb.php. Its a liquid that you put on for wherever you DON'T want nail polish to get and it turns tacky once it hits your skin and just peels off with any of your unwanted nail polish when you're done. I have been wanting to try the half moon/some color block nail design and haven't yet but it definitely worked to give me a perfectly clean manicure when I did this: http://sckers4seqns.tumblr.com/post/6977686371/to

That does look cute! But, I'm with you on the patience part…I'd probably screw it up too many times that I'd end up taking it all off. Love the colors to paired up!

Yes! I am definitely going to try this nail trend. I was going to paint my fingernails in Essie's Lilacism today, but I ran out of time. You just gave me inspiration for my next mani. Thanks. Now I just need a fun metallic or sparkly polish. (:

This was absolutely helpful! I've been wanting to do the Half Moon nail for quite some time, but I just couldn't figure out how to properly execute the plan in motion. LOL. Thanks for sharing! Your nails look FAB btw! I'll be sure to try myself and post on my site! ;)

I just started getting into this nail thing (late bloomer, I know). I have been wearing the gel nails for the last couple of months and finally took them off this weekend to give my nails a break (not literally). This looks really great. I am going to have to try this.

This is such a cool DIY! Love it!! That lilac is such a pretty, fresh color. I pretty much suck at doing my own nails so I might not be attempting it anytime soon. But it looks lovely on you!

This looks FABULOUS! I have never seen this technique before. I was going to clean house today, but clearly I have to try this first. And clearly, once my nails look so AWESOME I can't risk chipping them by cleaning, can I? Oh well…

I thought I'd add some male's perspective to this… those things are hideous. And it kind of horrifies me that people are fawning over them.

    But that's just me.

I adore your nail tutorial!!! I am going to try Essie Fiji and a mint apple… I just need to purchase hole puncher stickers…

AODRE YOUR BLOG, Have a great weekend!!

I just did this with my nails for my initiation to my sorority and it looks awesome! :) :) I got a TON of compliments on them!

I have tried this before and my bottom color always comes off when I take the stickers off… even after letting the “half moon” color dry for a whole day.

Just tried this for the first time and love it! The process is quick and easy and my nails turned out great and I cannot wait to try it with different colors again. :)

Hiya! Fun design! I just wanted to tell you, if after you apply your final color (before your top coat) take a block buffer, not a new one. You want it to be used, so the grit is more on the buffing side. Any way take your block and lightly buff the final color. You will have to wait for it to dry obviously, but this will give it a more smooth finish after you apply the top coat. It will eliminate the hard line between the two colors;) I am a licensed nail chick so this is safe lol
Just found your blog and I think its pretty great! Im sure I will be stalking…following you;)
