Instant Style: Animal Print + Red

by Kristina on January 27, 2012 · 45 comments

I love the look of red and animal print together. I consider animal print to be a neutral, under all but the most extreme of circumstances. I’ve been a little uninspired lately when it comes to my outfits, so I’m trying to kick myself into high gear and get back into the swing of things.

I spotted this gorgeous little high-low chiffon skirt at Forever 21, and picked it up not knowing what I would pair it with. Then I spotted a sheer cheetah print sleeveless shirt with a collar and button down (similar to the Equipment shirt above, but sadly not found on F21′s website). Holding them in my hands together, I looked down and though, “Instant outfit!”

Above is how I would style it with accessories and makeup.

Have a great weekend, folks! Don’t forget to check out my new Shop – items new or like-new from my closet at bargain prices.

Get the look

equipment top (cheaper one at f21 stores) | forever 21 chiffon high low skirt | sam edelman petty suede booties (glittery ones here) | forever 21 scroll shimmery scarf | bauble bar sunken treasure bracelet | coach spike bracelet | nars heat wave

The social bar above is my tip jar. Pin, Like, and Tweet if you please!

Love, Kristina

I adore red and animal print – a great way to style animal print items.
But I think that animal print is a pattern, that goes with (nearly) every color, it looks of course good with non-colors like beige, white, light grey, grey and black, but also with pink, green, blue etc. It’s quite unique, and some animal print shoes add instant glamour to almost every outfit!

Gorgeous outfit. I used to be a bit apprehensive in regards to animal prints, but now I habe various pieces and I wouldn’t want to live without them anymore. :) I love the spiked bracelet btw.! It’s awesome.

Love this look. I wish I was fierce enough to rock red/animal print. I think I only have the guts to maybe do one at a time!

I love the combo together, though my boyfriend would go, “That’s so Peggy Bundy,” and I would reply, “And there’s something wrong with that?”

Those boots paired against the chiffon makes for great contrast!

LOL to the Peggy Bundy comment! So right! She was on-trend before all of us were even a twinkle in our dad’s eye.

I totally hear you that animal prints are a neutral, I didn’t think until recently, when I’ve started incorporating a lot my snakeskin, leopard, and other prints into my wardrobe and they work with everything. Love them paired with red!

I love a bright color & animal print together. I was just thinking about this for spring… I also want to try the following colors with animal print; turquoise, purple, & pink. (of course not all at once)

Word on animal print being a neutral, couldn’t agree with you more! It really spices up any outfit. I’m about to to head to the mail (HM is having BOG1 on sale) and think it’s necessary I stop at F21 after reading this post!

Echoing the sentiments of the comments above; red + animal print is classic – as is taupe/camel and red + animal print. I always associate those color combinations with Fall. That coach necklace looks similar to the Stella & Dot renegade necklace/ring.
Have a nice weekend!!

I feel the same way, leopard is for the most part a neutral. The outift looks great, can’t wait to see it on you in a post.

So fabulous! Animal prints are my favorite neutrals and I love red but have a hard time wearing it- this seems like a perfect solution to tone down the red without going bland. Thanks for the inspiration!
Warmly,

You did a very nice job in pulling this outfit together. The red skirt really does complement the leopard top very well. The spike bracelet is awesome. I guess who bought it. I bought it myself with the necklace. Both pieces together are stunning. Anyway, enjoy your new outfit.

Red + Leopard = 2 of my favorite things. Add the gold, that makes 3.

Just read about you over at IFB. Love your philosophy and your site!
