Love List: Beauty (July)

by Kristina on July 19, 2011

shop: urban decay “naked” palette | maybelline great lash big mascara | opi axxium gel lacquer | diorskin forever foundation

I always have a rotating list of favorite things. Favorite beauty products, favorite hair products, go-to accessories, even go-to meals and snacks (lately, it’s cheese quesadillas). This month I’ve been utilizing a few beauty products more than most. It’s safe to say I’ve either discovered (as is the case with OPI Axxium), or rediscovered them (like my Foreverskin foundation and Great Lash mascara)!

What are some beauty products you’ve discovered or rediscovered lately?

Love, Kristina

Totally agree with the Naked Palette! Best investment you can make for a set of perfect neutrals! I recently started wearing BB Cream (a huge trend that started in Asia) in place of my foundation and I am loving it! They carry two at Sephora – Dr. Jart and Boscia. I have the Dr. Jart one.

Tell me more about this BB Cream – does it cover up flaws and even out your skintone? I just find it so hard to believe but I looked it up on Sephora after you mentioned it, and I'm intrigued!

I really like it a lot! It does a pretty great job at evening out skin tone. I've noticed I don't have to use as much concealer. I put the BB Cream everywhere – it can even be used under and around eyes and then if I have a blemish/unevenness, I use concealer on top of it. I feel the coverage is really great, although it feels very lightweight. The only downside is all BB Creams only come in one shade, which might not work for you since you are so fair. I am pretty fair and the Dr. Jart one works on my skin tone. Just do some research online and watch some beauty gurus on YouTube and they can help you decide which one works for you. I'd definitely go in and try it first before buying.

Kristina! Yes, I stalk your blog =)))

I had to respond to this BB cream post – they have more shades on prettyandcute.com or yesstyle.com – try it out!

The Naked palette is on my lust list & i can't wait to try it. Everybody's raving over it lately it seems. My 3 faves as of late: Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray, OPI's Cajun Shrimp, and SkinCeuticals clarifying clay masque.

I've been meaning to get that bumble and bumble surf spray -where does one get it?

I ordered mine off Amazon: http://is.gd/vSW03u but you can also by it from their site as well: http://is.gd/BBNzKx. Not really sure about retail stores though. You'll love it!

Rediscovered Benefit's BADgal Lash Mascara in Black – I use the plum one everyday but kept telling myself it was the colour not the formula, but when I ran out and I had to switch back to black I found my Clinique one did not feel right anymore, and a sample I had of BADgal Black which I had previously disliked, I loved!

Big big fan of Maybelline's Great Lash! It doesn't smudge, it's easy to take out, and most of all, it doesn't crump up and leave me with racoon eyes the next day!

These are all great picks – I'm really anxious to try OPI Axxium after seeing your pictures of it!

great collection..as a student with no income i mostly stick with cheaper (never the less quite nice) products..these make me go "when i have a job…"

You're so right. I'm on a budget too but will splurge on a product I know and love because I know I won't have to buy something else when the cheaper product eventually fails. But I love bargain buys that do the job well! :)

Are the OPI Axxium like the Shellac gel nail lacquer? If so, I would love to try it. I'm a big fan of the Shellac manicure, they really do last me 15 days!

I'm also a BIG fan of Urban Decay, I was really really sad when they discontinued their liquid foundation because theirs was perfect for my skin tone and type (i think i used Supernatural).

Reply

Kristina Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

Yes they are exactly like the Shellac! But i've heard OPI Axxium is better for weaker nails, which is why I chose a salon that does axxium rather than shellac. but i'm sure both are equally great!

I just got the Naked palette myself and am loving it. Still need to learn what to do with all those shades though! Can't say I am a fan of the Maybelline mascara though, I am a Cover Girl kind of gal :)

I am hooked in the OPI gel nails! I am rocking a hot pink right now that I'm in love with!

Rachel Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at 3:45 am

Love the naked pallette, but while the OPI gel nails are addicting, they also RUIN your nails. Soak off they definitely are not.

Reply

Kristina Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at 4:38 am

I've had mine soaked off without any issues. No grounding or anything like I've heard others report. I wonder if it's salon-dependent and if maybe they need to soak longer.

Reply

Rachel Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at 7:27 am

I bet it's salon dependent. Do you happen to remember how long you've let yours soak for? I think my max was 25 minutes and they still need to be ground. I do agree the final look is amazing, but my poor nails :(

i'm totes down with the axxium manicures–just wish they would get more trendy colors.

i'm basically obsessed with those esos lip balms (the ones that look like little eggs). I literally put it on ever 30 minutes when i'm not wearing lipgloss!

Maybelline big lash is definitely a great item to have. I also like Maybelline's stiletto mascara. It gives the illusion of false eyelashes when applied. Gotta love that.

My mom uses that mascara and loves it. Oddly enough I don't like mascara. That plate of eye shadows is wonderful!

Vitamin E stick! I use it under my eyes and where ever I have patches of dry skin. I love it :)

Looks like everyone is still obsessed with the Naked pallet! I've held out on it but now I'm starting to think I NEED it (funny how that works…)

I love butterLondon polishes but just tried their polish remover for the first time and am head over heels in love. It's fantastic.

Great post… Love the shades of the Urban Decay palette and think I might try the Maybelline mascara! My current obsessions are Laura Mercier Brightening Powder, Limoscene nail polish by Essie and a nifty Hawaiian Tropic spray on sunscreen that smells delicious and makes my legs look lovely & moisturized.

I lust for the urban decay palette, but its a little to rich for my blood right now, so I've opted for the dup of Nyx Nude on Nude palette. which is great and you get more colors. I heart that mascara its my drugstore weapon of choice.

Thanks to YOU, I "discovered" MAC's Haute + Naughty mascara – I absolutely LOVE it! I remember reading about it a few months ago in one of your blog posts and I gave it a try at my local MAC counter. I love the option of going full-on drama or naturally defined.

Hope your summer is going well and happy wedding planning!
