Bare Minerals “The Top Shelf”

Ever since hearing Estée profess her love for this eyeshadow duo, I decided to finally check out Bare Minerals Ready eyeshadow duo in “The Top Shelf” in person at my local Ulta store. Immediately after swatching, I knew that it would be an easy go-to, everyday eye look for me. With one downside (which I will explain later). On to the pictures!

I absolutely love the pigmentation of these two shadows – they’re almost metallic when they swatch! But they layer so very smoothly and I will say that my only gripe about this duo is that the darker color is so shimmery – theoretically a crease color like the darker shade should be matte, not metallic, since you want to avoid reflecting light and actually recess the appearance of your socket.

On the other hand, it does give you two very nice shimmery colors, and who says the darker one has to be in the crease? Sometimes I just wash it all over my lid and use the lighter color as a  brow bone highlight.

I’m much more interested now in checking out the other Bare Minerals Ready eyeshadows after being so pleasantly surprised with this lovely “Top Shelf” number. Bonus points for all of the shadow duos being preceded with “The”, just like my category titles on PSS!

Non-Makeup Favorites

nonmakeupfavorites-biore

Hello lovelies! Today I’ll be sharing with you my favorites of the past month–those that aren’t makeup or fashion, that is.

Click here to watch those favorites! Lately I’ve been loving charcoal, so I’ve been obsessed with finding anything and everything charcoal-related. It does wonders for my skin without drying it out. Like nature’s little vacuum cleaner for pores! Daily I’ve been using the Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser to wash my face in the morning, and on a weekly basis I’ve been using the Bioré Self Heating One Minute Mask – which is a lifesaver for those of us without a lot of pampering time (or if you just don’t like the feeling of face masks for more than a minute).

I’ve also got a few other random favorites thrown in there so be sure and click on to watch the video below to see everything! Please Click To View The Full Post →

Ask PSS: Episode 1

Hey guys! First of all I want to thank each and every one of you who sent kind thoughts and prayers and comments my way on Friday and continually throughout the weekend. On Friday I was on my way to the hospital for a usual 16-hour call shift, when a cement truck ran a two-way stop sign (I had the right-of-way) and out of nowhere he collided with my passenger side, straight on. My car was slammed into a light pole and I managed to swerve myself out of a ditch. Thankfully I managed to get out safely with just a few bruises on my left arm and left hip where my body must have slammed into the side of the car on impact. I feel very fortunate and very blessed. Sadly, I’m carless now but it’s a small price to pay for my car taking the brunt of the impact. Bravo, 2011 Toyota Camry! You have a special place in my heart, that’s for sure.

So! Here’s my first episode of #AskPSS – you guys use the hashtag to ask me questions and get featured in my video! If you weren’t featured and you asked a question, never fear – you can always ask again!

Thanks so much to those of you who did write in their questions! I had fun answering them!

Healthy Banana Peanut Butter Cup Oatmeal

Hey guys! Today I thought I would share with you one of my favorite recipes that I have concocted lately. It may seem a bit weird, but trust me, this is so cozy and delicious and relatively healthy. (No added sugars – unless you’re like me and add brown sugar or honey at the end – haha.) It started when I purchased two jars of PB2 – one of original peanut butter and one of the chocolate peanut butter variation. I wanted to try using it in different ways other than just reconstituting it and using it as actual peanut butter in a sandwich or with fruit. So I was making oatmeal one day, and I usually place a half banana in my oatmeal to sweeten it up and add some interest, but I decided to throw in some chocolate PB2 and it was absolutely delicious. It tastes like oatmeal that has bananas and Reese’s peanut butter cups in it. Delicious. I like to add cinnamon on top sometimes for an extra special bit of “wow”.

  1. Truvia or Splenda sweeteners
  2. handful of nuts
  3. ground cinnamon
  4. brown sugar or honey
Instructions
  1. Add water to saucepan, bring to a boil.
  2. Add oats, stir, and bring heat down to low-medium (enough to keep a slow boil).
  3. Add banana, mash and stir into the cooking oats.
  4. Add PB2 (powdered peanut butter) or traditional peanut butter/hazelnut spread.
  5. Optionally, add honey or brown sugar if you desire a sweeter oatmeal.
Notes
  1. Tip: If you are going to multiply this recipe for more than one person, everything will translate equally, however follow your oats' instructions for multiple servings, and don't use quite as much banana as the multiplier would suggest.

What’s In My Céline?

whatsinmybag-celine-micro-luggage-tote1

Happy Monday guys and gals! I hope you are having a great start to your week. Mine definitely looks busy, but luckily I’ve got some great content lined up for you this week, so be sure to check back every day!

Today I’m sharing with you my new baby: my Céline Luggage tote in the “Micro” size and black drummed leather. The drummed leather comes with silver hardware and the smooth leather comes with gold hardware, which I do feel looks better on black, but smooth leather scratches easily and loses its shape faster than drummed leather. (A comparison between the drummed and smooth leather can be made with the Chanel caviar vs lambskin leathers, if you’re familiar with Chanel). Although the bag is pricey, it’s by far the most well-made bag I’ve ever owned (yes, even compared to my Chanel). Nothing compares to the feeling of sturdiness and craftsmanship, in my opinion. Céline definitely has a new fan for life.

If you’d like to watch the video about my thoughts on the bag and the contents of my bag (which have actually changed quite a bit since my last video, so it won’t be as boring, I promise), or to see a photo of all the contents laid out neatly, then just click on!

Splurge or Steal: The Pistachio Creams

splurge-or-steal-laura-mercier-creme-de-pistache-dove-pistachio

If you haven’t already guessed by now, I’m a definite fan of Laura Mercier’s eau gourmand line, with special attention to the Creme de Pistache (Pistachio) scent. Ironically, it smells nothing like a pistachio, unless you count the barely-noticeable nutty undertone to what is otherwise dominated by sugar, butter, and vanilla. It’s like when you’re baking a cake from scratch, and you have just creamed the butter and sugar, and you add the dash of vanilla. So yummy.

Very recently Dove came out with a scent in their nutrium moisture body wash range called, “Purely Pampering Pistachio Cream with Magnolia“. Apparently Dove shares Laura Mercier’s fondness for long-winded product names. Nonetheless, if you are fan of the LM scent, you will love this one. Unfortunately I can only find this scent in the beauty bar and body wash at the moment – but you can be sure I scooped up multiples in case it gets discontinued quickly. It is, after all, not the type of scent that sounds good off the shelf. Until, that is, you smell it.

I will caveat the potential buyer who is an expert on the LM Creme de Pistache range – the Dove version doesn’t smell quite as concentrated, if that makes sense. It’s very light. It also doesn’t lather up much at all, so it’s a bit like washing your body with a lotion – but it’s very moisturizing and I like that after I get out of the shower I can actually skip the moisturizing step on most non-fussy days.

Fragrance Update

Hey guys! Today I’m sharing with you some fragrance updates. I personally love perfume and while I do have signature fragrances that I turn to time and time again, I like to change up my fragrance depending on my daily mood. Here are a few that I have been loving at the moment.
