Parisian Chic & The Trench Coat Story

Trench coat- Banana Republic (Paris!) | Top- StyleMint | Jeans- 7 for all mankind | Necklace- Marc by Marc Jacobs | Flats- Toms Ballet Flats | Handbag- Longchamp

Paris is an amazing city. It reminded me of a much older New York City – with better architecture and feeling even more lost than usual because you don’t speak the language. While in Paris we made sure to enjoy the touristy sites like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Versailles, the d’Orsay, and so much more. And of course, a little shopping.

This trench coat has a funny story behind it – while at Versailles in the gardens waiting for the enormous line to die down, I was taking pictures of HB and an enormous crow decided to release the entire contents of his bowel onto the sleeve of my khaki trench coat. Distraught, we had no other clothes for me, and no patience to wait in a 2-hour line, so we went home never having set food inside Versailles. The good news is that Banana Republic trench coats are half the price in Paris than they are in the States! I happily snatched up one in black and wore it every single day thereafter. I intend to save up for the khaki version, too. :)

Has a bird ever used you as a toilet? Inquiring minds want to know!

…And hit that “like” button up top if you think that nobody is immune to the threat of bird poop!

oooohhh noooo nothing worse than a bird using you as a toilet! ewww
    Lovely coat though! x

You did not missed much not seen Versailles. Instead you should have stopped at Josephines’s house (Napoleon’ wife)
Also the Muse Marmottan in the west side of Paris is one of my favorites. It has all the paintings of Clude Monet.
The next time you venture out of the US check with me. I can tell you a lot about the world in my travels

Aww, so sorry to heat about your khaki trench getting ruined – I would be SO upset! :( Can’t wait to see more pictures from your trip, though, since I’ve never been to Paris!

Aww that’s so sad! Sorry about your trench coat! But the new one looks great on you!
I visited Versailles in 2007, but it was raining so much that I couldn’t visit the gardens, which is what I wanted to visit from the start. We should have shopped some coats too, because all our clothes were wet from the rainy weather, and it was early August…

Well, I think you shouldn’t be mad about the bird ’cause thats a really beautiful new trench coat you got. ;-)
Happy you had such a wonderful honeymoon, you deserved it!

They say bird poop is good luck, and finding that great black trench turned out to be good luck indeed! I am eager to hear all about your Paris adventure. I depart for ten days starting 6/8, and I keep checking back here to read your highlights!

You know it’s a sign of good luck to have bird do that to you. And crow’s are the most intelligent birds out there…so that’s gotta be worth something, right? :)

I guess! Haha…oh and I have been meaning to tell you, your comments keep getting trapped in spam because of all the links in your signature. Since your name is already linked to your blog, if you could refrain from putting links in the comment body I’d appreciate it. :-)

oh my gosh, that stinks BUT everything does happen for a reason: yay for this awesome, half price trench. :) so glad you had an amazing time in paris. We went about 4 years ago before our daughter was born. Incredible city!

Sorry about your trench, but the new one is great! When I was in Paris in 2005, I couldn’t even get inside Versailles because they were filming Marie Antoniette (the one with Kirsten Dunst). So, we just did the garden tours which I still liked a lot. There’s always your next Paris trip in 20?? !

Oh no, that’s such a sad story! Especially since it was a huge crow! Very cute outfit though and would love to go pick up a trench from Banana Republic in Paris when I’m there for half price!!!!!

GIRL. The only times I’ve been pooped on by a bird were in France– not once, but TWICE (once in Paris at our hotel and the other time in Giverny). Luckily it was July and it was always on my arm.

  • http://www.thebostonista.com Kara @ Bostonista

OK as gross as being a bird’s bathroom is (I’ve had it happen to me TWICE! I’m like a lightning rod for bird poop) the little guy might have done you a favor because I love your Parisian BR trench! The black looks great! It’s interesting that BR is cheaper in France than here.

Also, since you didn’t get to actually go into Versailles now you have an excuse to go back to Paris :)

    xo

Well, I’d thank that bird, because this is one lovely trench!

My black and khaki BR trenches are staples of my wardrobe! I love them so much. I even picked up the hot pink version (when it was onsale) this past season. Love the look!

Oh, my so not nice of that bird! So sorry your lovely trench got pooped on! Course they do say {at least golfers do!} that if a bird poops on you it’s good luck…so maybe it was your good luck that that bird pooped on you and that led you to find out trenches were half cost in Paris than in the US! There’s a sunny side to everything! lol… Happy Monday to you! *wink*

Question about your jeans…do you wear petite or short jeans? I am also a fellow shortie and sometimes I have the hardest time finding jeans that are just the right length for when I want to wear flats or heels with the same pair of jeans. Do you have jeans that you just wear with your flats and longer jeans that you reserve for your heels? What is a short girl to do, what would you suggest?

I just bought a trench coat from Madewell. A trench is definitely a necessary statement piece!

  • http://sparkycorner.wordpress.com Sara

One used me and I had no idea till I looked at myself in the mirror in a bathroom …
On another note, LOVE black trench coats! I got one before I worked in Philadelphia and wore it ALL THE TIME. I especially love yours with the pop of pink mint tee!! So glad to hear that you enjoyed Paris so much!!

  • http://www.runwaychef.com Alyssa

Oh no! Your poor trench coat! But hey, at least you got a great new coat & a funny story to tell!

  • http://www.channinginthecity.com Channing in The City

That stinks about the bird, but you made out much better! I’m visiting Paris in August, I’ll have to remember to pop into a Banana Republic!

I got a belly sized splat on me while laying out by the swimming pool once.

Trench coats are really not in my closet but I would like to wear some during the colder and rainy season but I am on the shorter side, do you think I would appear shorter when I wear this?

    • http://prettyshinysparkly.com Kristina

Only if I look short to you in these photos–I’m actually 5’2″!!

  • http://chezsabine.com Sabine

A good lipstick, a terrific pair of sunglasses and a classic trench — the perfect triad for a smart look on the run. Love your black trench coat. I vote that there should be one in every closet.

  • Giovanna

Hey! An old wive’s tale says that if a bird poops on you is good luck so I guess it did work cause you got an Awsome trench for cheaper!! :)

  • http://top5beauty.co.uk Sally

Lovely jacket, but oh, what a nightmare with the bird droppings. Takes me back to high school, when a friendly pigeon decided to drop one right on top of my head. Thing is I didn’t even notice, I thought it was just a drip or something until someone pointed it out to me with great delight 20 minutes later!
