Petite Fashion Blogs

Taking a break from the norm, I thought I would share with you one of my guiltiest pleasures: petite style blogs. As a petite person myself at a diminutive 5’2″ tall, I am regularly on the hunt for that perfect-fitting petite sized piece. And, you may be surprised to know, petite doesn’t mean you have to be size 00. All it relates to is height. That’s why you’ll find a variety of sizes for any item of clothing that comes in a petite size.

What does it mean? Armholes are higher up, hemlines are shorter, tailoring is nipped in at a higher level. Sleeves are shorter. Tops and jackets are shorter. All to reflect the shorter proportions of the petite person’s frame. Love! What do you need to qualify as petite? There’s no law out there (yet, haha) but the hard and fast rule is you are considered petite if you are 5’4″ and under. Read on to discover some of Pretty Shiny Sparkly’s favorite petite fashion blog finds.

Wendy’s Lookbook | wendyslookbook.com

Wendy’s Lookbook is a force to be reckoned with. She’s super friendly, amazingly creative (check out her out of this world YouTube channel) and she has a whole lot of heart (just read her About page). I love the format of her posts, and outfit credits are easy to find and eloquently described.

Extra Petite | extrapetite.com

Jean’s website, Extra Petite, is absolutely lovely. Clean, minimalist design puts the focus on her outstanding outfit photos. And I love how she takes pictures of petite (and non-petite) clothing and accessories she buys, always providing a coupon code or sale news for those of us on a budget. She also give honest reviews, and isn’t afraid to let us know when she returned something and why (like her recent J.Crew townhouse coat purchase).

I Am Style-ish | iamstyle-ish.com

Tiffany’s blog is another that has cohesive design, with excellent photography. (Notice a pattern, here?) It doesn’t hurt that she and her husband are a wedding photography team in their own right, in addition to their day jobs. I love how Tiffany injects pops of color (not infrequently pink, which gets brownie points from me) into everyday outfits.

her waise choice | herwaisechoice.com

Jen is Canadian petite fashion blogger and her site is so lovely: clean, simple, and the focus is on the content. I think that we can all take a page out of Jen’s book on that alone. But she’s also a very lovely person. We follow each other on Instagram, which is how I found her site, and she takes a killer photograph, people. Plus, her sense of style is classic, fun, and always reinventing itself.

cute & little | cuteandlittle.com

Last but certainly not least is Kileen, of cute & little. She’s a Texan petite, like myself, so I can’t help but identify with her. And she has the most enviable bag collection, like, ever! I found her through her participation in Bloggers Do It Better, and I’m so glad I did. She is eloquent, her site is well designed, and her outfits are top-notch (plus always work friendly). She’s a classy lady, y’all.

YAY! I’m 5’2 as well! I admit some times I get a little upset when petite fashion bloggers say something like, “I did want to wear a maxi but I don’t think it would look right!” But recently I think that’s gotten better :) A lot more empowerment going around. Haha

You do a spectacular job of choosing items that elongate your limbs and make you look tall–I had no idea you were petite! Thanks for giving us petite girls hope that we can look as beautifully tall as you do.

  4. says

thanks so much for spotlighting us petites out there! i was so surprised to see this feature and am absolutely flattered to have been included in such an amazing lineup. and holla to us Texans too! :)

Petite fashion blogs are the best! All of these ladies that you mentioned are the greatest, and I like that you pointed out being petite is about height, not about being a size 00.

  6. says

love this! i’m 5’4 (on a good day) so seeing how items look on someone else around the same height is helpful. i’m only familiar with one or two of these… visiting others now. Thanks!

Kristina – how I wish we could have met in Barcelona! Vahni was such a doll, I wish BOTH you and her could’ve come.

Thanks so much for the kind mention here, and I recognize many of my favorite bloggers. You photograph so “tall” in photos I’m sure most readers would never suspect you were petite, but Vahni clued me in. If you don’t already read this blog, it was the first blog I’ve ever followed and is chock-full of awesome information plus a petite forum!

I have to say that Jean was so much fun, so she automatically gets my vote! Can’t wait for you to meet her in NY!

And, Jean, xoxo to you. I’m still recalling you and Lilliana and me in the bar that night hysterically watching that video. Too funny!

Thanks for the links! I’m 5’3″ and I’m far from a skinny minnie I do find it especially difficult to get trousers that fit right. Nice to have some browsing material for inspiration. :)

Thanks for sharing these, Kristina! I’m a petite woman too, but I’ve never seen any of these blogs before! It was funny looking through quickly and seeing some of the clothes I have in common with these fashionable ladies. Can’t wait to see more from them (and you).

This is a really interesting post because lately, in the blogging world, I’ve see a lot of this petite fashion challenge and wondered about it. I must say that over the Internet I find it impossible to tell if someone is petite, average height or tall. I had no idea you would classify yourself as petite. I going to check out the blogs you listed now. Of course I know Cute and Little, I visit it all the time because it is amazing.

Kristina! I just wanted to write you a comment to say thank you again for the feature! I’ve actually been admiring your blog from afar for a few months – the way you have your sponsorship info and general layout set up is very inspiring. Talk about a professional blog — and to have you saying good things about mine is flattering to say the least.

Hope you’re having a great day!

I’m right at the cusp of being a petite, height-wise, but find the arms and armholes too short for me usually. Love your round-up! Thanks for sharing a few of my faves and a few new ones for me to explore!

  14. says

thanks again for including me in your roundup! Love all the ladies you mentioned (including yourself!) I’m definitely on the petite side but never shop in the petite section so petites definitely aren’t limited to the petite sizes or wearing children’s clothes! A good tailor is everything! ;)

It is so funny how misleading pictures can be where height is concerned. I never would have guessed you to be petite. Thanks for the round up of petite bloggers. I already follow several of them, but am always excited to find more. Being petite myself (just under 5’3″) it always nice to see how other petites manage style. ;)

  16. says

yay! i’m glad you featured some of my favourite petite blogs too. it’s nice for us petite ladies who don’t necessarily blog about the perfect fit. i like getting inspiration from you, a shorty med student (what i’m aspiring to be next year!) thanks for the post, kristina!

Isn’t petite blogging wonderful ? I’ve had my site up for a long time – started it because I had issues with how body image was dealt with online. That was in 2006. It’s a lot of work, but I’m happy to see the petite community grow. Maybe some day big media would actually pay more attention to us. It isn’t only about fit, it’s about how we’re perceived, too.

  18. says

Thanks for the recommendations, like many who commented I’m also a petite blogger. And I agree a cohesive, simple design and excellent photography help make a great blog (like yours !)

I’m an avid reader of Wendy’s Lookbook and Extrapetite.com. Love, LOVE, their sites. I have to check out the other blogs. Thanks for the shares.

I absolutely loved Wendy’s style and have been a regular reader of extrapetite. Nice blogs.

Its always great to find good bloggers who can feature great style even on their petite frame. Just one question, why hve u featured only Asian bloggers?

I came across this petite blogger, quite love her style. Do check her out too – styledestino.blogspot.com

I don’t focus on the race or ethnicity of the blogs I like to read – instead I focus on quality of content, originality, and style. But I thank you for your recommendation!

Really appreciate this, amazing. Love Wendy, read her blogs and watch her youtube. She has definitely got the style, and knows how to tie a scarf and how to wear a scarf. Love her daily exploits as well. She is going to be a star.
