It’s amazing what an airbrush tan will do for your mood and self-image (as shallow as that sounds). As a permanently ghost-like pale person, I’m constantly applying bronzer & blush to give myself a healthy dose of color. For our engagment shoot (which is today!) I went for a professional airbrush spray tan. Getting naked with a total stranger and having them meticulously spray your body within 12 inches from your body can be a little intimidating, to say the least! But afterwards the bronze glow is so, so, so rewarding and it makes me want to wear dresses every day (sans tights!).

It’s probably only appropriate that I post this pink + gold outfit today on the day of our engagement photo shoot–our wedding colors are pink + gold!* It’s a color combination that isn’t found very often in wedding palettes, I feel, but the moment I started planning (the day after we got engaged) I knew it was going to be our colors. It’s a challenge to do it and do it well (read: tastefully) but in the end it is going to be so worth it. Married peeps: what were YOUR colors?

* = different shade of pink than this dress, natch.

One last thing: this outfit (minus a few accessories) is actually really inexpensive. I think the belt was $4, the dress was $25, the shoes are now on sale…so if you like this look and are on a budget (like myself), hopefully this helps.

Okay, one last last thing: giveaway tomorrow. :)

The social bar above is my tip jar. Pin, Like, and Tweet if you please!

Love, Kristina

Where did you go for your spray tan? I have only ever done the machine automated spray tans and unfortunately I often come out orange!

I went to Satori Salon in the Heights – they do airbrush tanning there and I loved it! I also have done the machine spray tan and came out orange. With the airbrush I came out bronze and the tan never developed orange, only brown!

Aw, pink and gold for your wedding sounds lovely. :)

Anyways, speaking of lovely, you look great! Oh gosh I am dying for a tan. Here is Asia though, everyone wants to be fair (you rarely find tanning products here, it’s all “whitening” or “brightening” products) so when you get a tan, they kinda go, But why would you do that?! It’s really interesting how Western and Asian’s “views” on beauty are completely opposite!

that looks wonderful – i love this golden pink outfit! and I’m as pale (in a positive way, 300 years ago we would have been the desired beauties, always think of that!), but I really feel better with a little tan. I recently discovered an airbrush studio in munich (i think here it is not at all as popular as in the USA) and I’m going to try it soon, because i’m feeling like a ghost…

WOW – I love this look from head to toe…can’t believe these are all affordable pieces because they don’t appear cheap! Our wedding colors were deep red, white & metallic gold – sounds like it should have been a Christmas wedding, but it wasn’t! If I could go back & do it over again, I would totally pick different colors. :)

Thank you :) your wedding colors sound lovely – what season was it?

Reply

15 Penny Pincher Fashion January 30th, 2012 at 3:29 pm

It was the end of July…random, I know. For some reason, I really wanted those colors and looking back on it, I have no idea why. I blame it on my youth – I was only 21 at the time, so my taste in style was still developing! :)

Ha, I was skeptical of getting an air brush spray tan before but the bronze glow is totally worth any moment of awkwardness. As another pale girlfriend, I can definitely relate ;)) Pink + Gold will be so gorgeous – can’t wait to see pics. ;)

I started planning my wedding the moment after I was engaged too! (In November) My colors are going to be taupe with pops of orange and purple. Not a color scheme a lot of people think of either, but I love the way that it is turning out. I am sure your wedding will be flawless!

I LOVE the hot pink and GOLD. And you wear it well. My wedding color’s were white and cream….It was an outdoor wedding and against all the bright greenery and the white lights everywhere it was gorgeous. I wore cream! Not very traditional back in 1994 (WOW!!!! That was a long time ago huh!?) You will be such a beautiful bride. ENJOY!

The wedding party wore navy, a color I’m still glad to have picked. : ) And the flowers were yellow roses, which I’m a bit indifferent about now.

As for the awkwardness of the naked spray tan, have a baby and almost nothing is awkward again. All in due time, of course.

I love this dress! I had no idea Forever 21 had such cute, wearable stuff. We just got one in our local mall and to look at it from the window dressing it looks SO young/short/tight. I am definitely going to give it a closer look.
We had just one wedding color – hydrangea blue. Everything else just sort of stuck to that outdoorsy, natural color palette (June wedding). I’m originally from Eastern Kentucky, so we had an Appalachian theme – lots of tans and light greens were mixed in, and my dress was on the ivory side. My bouquet was hydrandeas and wildflowers from my mom’s garden, tied with a long piece of twine. Sigh. I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’ve never tried spray tanning before. I’m not much of a tanner. I guess I have grown to accept my ghost like complexion.

First of all, congratulations on your soon to be wedding! That is very exciting, and it sounds like you are having so fun planning it.
Anyway, down to fashion. I really like your outfit in this post. That color pink I feel can be so flattering on so many skin types, but people are often wary of wearing such a bright and bold color. Not me though! And the cut of it looks so comfortable yet still flattering, especially the sleeve length. That necklace is a really nice pop of contrast for sure.
Where did you get the dress? I’ve been looking for more basic pieces like that for Spring.
