Splurge or Steal: Matte Red Lipstick

in The Beauty

If you’ve scrolled through enough of my posts or videos, you know I’m quite fond of a red lip – and the more matte and deep, the better. I always stick to blue-y toned reds, because they avoid making your teeth look yellow. Up until now, my favorite matte red lipsticks have been MAC’s Russian Red, and their limited edition Such Flare from the Glitter & Ice holiday collection in 2011, which is no longer available. In fact, I loved Such Flare so much, knowing it was limited edition, I stocked up on two tubes before it quickly sold out.

You can imagine my dismay when, shopping at my grocery store, I was browsing the beauty aisle and looking over Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipsticks, when I spotted “Really Red” in the matte finish bullet. I didn’t hesitate to purchase it, and took it home and tried it on…and loved it. It’s a great dupe for the two MAC lipsticks mentioned, and although it doesn’t wear quite as long as Russian Red (known for its lip longevity), it’s a wallet-friendly version that in my opinion gives just the same effect, and will look great on a range of different skin tones. Try it out and see!

I like the mac red shade as it has blue hues in it. REd lipstick are such a woman signature and gives every look a statement :-9

I love a good red lip but hate lipsticks that are drying. Since this one does not wear quite as long as the Mac, would you say it is drying or moisturizing?

I would say it is a tiny bit more moisturizing, but not by much, since it is a matte lipstick!

I prefer glossy shades over matte shades. I also love MAC lipsticks as well as their long lasting lip glosses. BUT, whenever my budget starts to get a little tight, I go to http://www.MyDivaDeZigns.com and I order AVON lip glosses and lip colors. They are pretty too. Sometimes I just can’t pay $20 for a lip gloss :(

I had been wanting to try Russian Red for some time now, but when I read this post I went right out and picked up the Revlon shade. I love it! Seriously such a pretty shade of red. Thanks so much for the tip!

Great review. A lot of lipsticks do have gluten in them. So if you are gluten-free make sure your lipstick and lipgloss is gluten-free also. Glam Girl Naturals Cosmetics has some great shades and all are gluten-free, cruelty-free and vegan!
