Dramatic Autumn Makeup Tutorial

While you’ll normally see me with a bright pink lip most days (that I’m not working, that is), when it comes time for autumn, I can’t help but gravitate towards a deep, plum berry lip. Case in point: this gorgeous color called Amethyst #165 by Dolce & Gabbana. Gorgeous shade. As with all darker lipsticks, make sure your lips are well conditioned and exfoliated before applying. Try mixing granulated sugar in some olive oil for a quick, DIY lip scrub!

How To Do Shellac & Rockstar Nails At Home

shellac rockstar nails bling holographic

Once again, thank you for the outpouring of support from you as my family and I endured through such a difficult day yesterday. I love you guys!

Since two of the most popular posts on my blog are involving shellac, I figured it was about time that I showed you how I have been doing my own Shellac nails at-home using a CND starter kit + UV lamp. I absolutely LOVE getting my nails done professionally (and recommend Ruth at Urban Oasis Houston any day, hands down), but my budget just wasn’t cutting the twice monthly $35+ manicures. So I decided to do it myself. Mind you, I’m pretty adept at painting my nails with regular polish, so if you struggle with regular polish, chances are you won’t have a great time with shellac, either, since this requires you to be pretty precise at where you lay down the gel in certain steps.

I’ve outlined the entire tutorial for you in the video above, AND I’ve included a tutorial on how to do ROCKSTAR (i.e. completely luxurious, 100% glittery shellac nails) within the same video! Also, here is the starter kit I purchased from Amazon, and here is the UV nail lamp I use. Have fun!

Super Simple 2 Minute Eye Makeup Look

Hey friends! A bunch of you asked for a tutorial on my favorite eye shadow combo that I mentioned in my August favorites video, so I thought I would film a quick little mini-tutorial (I call them mini-toots in my head…is that weird?). I hope you enjoy! This is seriously the easiest 2-minute eye makeup look ever, and it’s so simple it’s almost ridiculous to film but as always, ask and ye shall receive!

Love ya!

No-Makeup Look Makeup Tutorial

I have decided once more to venture out into the world of makeup tutorials! Please excuse the bare face, I’m envisioning a banshee scream every time each of you watches this video–try not to be too terrified, ‘kay? For a list of the products used and links to purchase them, please see the description bar here.

Also, my husband just told me that once we reach 10,000 subscribers on YouTube, he will make his debut in a video, attempting to do a full face of makeup on me, in the ever-hilarious “Boyfriend/Husband Does My Makeup” tag video! So spread the word! I know you’ll definitely want to see this cowboy-boot-wearin’, beard-sporting, manly-man put makeup on his wife’s face.

Basic Everyday Makeup Tutorial

Do not let the fabulous rainbow colors fool you: this is a pretty simple, everyday makeup look. Now, I’m no makeup artist, and yes I fudge up sometimes in the video (and trust me, I’m aware). But I do put on makeup everyday, and have been doing so for the last 15 years or so. I’ve created this video in a more sophisticated editing program that I’m trying out. Do you like the way this video runs? I would love your feedback on my videos, so I can continue to bring you content that you guys want. Getting to Glowy

After a tweet I sent out saying I had discovered a great foundation routine for getting glowy, many of you asked what my secret was to attaining said glowy skin with makeup (since I don’t have naturally glowy skin–and in fact, most people don’t, unless you live in a rainforest, bathe in retinols, and eat antioxidants all day).Read & Comment →

Please don’t gape in horror at my makeup-less face…oh, and please excuse the ratty hair. I could make a quip about a family of rats nesting in my hair, but it’s honestly the result of curling my hair the night before, spraying it with loads of hairspray, and then sleeping in it and waking up the next day. Looking like this.Read & Comment →

DIY Glitter Ankle Boots

I am constantly inspired by the things around me, and the wonderful things on the blogosphere. As soon as I spotted these stunning glittery ankle boots on Andrea Linett during a photo shoot for a blogger, I knew I had to have them. After a bit of research, I found them. And then my heart sank because there was no way I was paying $595 for a pair of boots.

My spirits lifted as I realized I could DIY my own pair! I researched some more and discovered that this pair of boots is probably one of the most DIY’ed items in the fashion blog world in recent months. Everyone loves them! There are some amazing results out there and I couldn’t have done it without reading their experiences first (check out the links at the bottom of this post).

A few months went by, and I forgot all about it. Until inspiration hit again, and this time, I was determined to do it right. Instead of scouring thrift shops or hunting down bargain bins, I went for the jackpot. I wanted a pair that looked exactly like it — not just any ol’ pair of booties would do. And then I came across these babies, and I knew I had found my muse. I quickly purchased them, visited my local Michael’s (craft store) and took a deep breath.Read & Comment →
