The Lady is a Tramp

Dear Kristina,

This outfit is probably among the top 5 dumbest things you have done in your life thus far. Bravo for thinking it would be “okay” to walk outside in a dress and tights when it is -18°C/0°F. I sincerely hope that “Get common sense” is one of your New Year’s resolutions.

Exasperatedly,

Kristina (who was originally going to title this post, “Are You $*&#ing Crazy?!”…for reals)

vintage coat (ebay) | bcbg max azria dress | we love colors tights in maroon (c/o) | target socks | sealskin boots*

HB is so friggin’ talented now – look at him go! A few lessons from a former photographer (moi) and he’s taking sun flare shots without a second thought, framing everything perfectly (which I can tell because my crop tool is getting kind of lonely), and he’s even giving me direction like “Yes, yes, YES! Aaaaaand I’m spent. <camera toss>”

Actually it’s more like, “STOP MOVING.” “STOP TALKING.” “YES I GOT A HEAD-TO-TOE.” “STOP MOVING.”

But only with the sweetest tone of voice, of course.

*A word about the sealskin boots: I don’t condone wearing fur, unless it’s vintage. It’s my policy, and it doesn’t mean it necessarily agrees with yours. My thought is that wearing new fur is inhumane and cruel, but vintage fur is like a compromise — in that it’s handed down, recycled, and it means the poor sweet animal did not die in vain. These boots belong to Erik, my dead brother. I remember scolding him for the purchase what seems like a million years ago–he didn’t care, he had to have them. But now, wearing them feels the same as wearing vintage fur: I’m making sure it wasn’t in vain, and I get to feel a little bit of Erik for however brief a time. Thank you for understanding.

The social bar above is my tip jar. Pin, Like, and Tweet if you please!

Love, Kristina

I got cold just looking at your photos! You look great, even though you must have been so very cold!

That is a great way to remember your brother, and keep him close when you were in Norway.

There's some fun photos that didn't make it into the post (blurry, crazy, etc) of me high-tailing it back inside because the cold became overwhelming. :)

I love your outfit! I don't think your crazy– dresses are my favorite thing to wear ever :)

& yay for HB getting better at pictures! I am at home for winter break still, but when I go back to school, I'll have to teach my boyfriend how to photograph my outfits… should be fun! :)

Thanks Taylor! Glad you like it! I switched PSS over to the Thesis theme…should run a lot faster and everything looks more cohesive, I think. Still working some kinks out though, like how to get my custom outfit category page to show up in this new theme…all in good time (and with good support from forums!)!

…yeah but despite the cold temps, the outfit is adorable. Just love it! Color me happy with colored tights!

I'm really impressed with we love colors – their tights are so thick, it would take major effort to wear these out!

Even though I can imagine you were very cold, this is such a cool outfit! I love the coat, especially the lining. I have to say I agree with you on the fur thing, although I also wear fur that was bought for me (it would be So rude to take it back). Those boots are obviously special to you.

I love your blog!

Aww thanks hun! That means a lot. People can be so cruel in comments when there's something regarding real fur. (take this post's comment)

Thanks Laine! I put a white border around today's pictures for fun. What does everyone think of it? Yea or nay?

I love the pops of red! Lips, lining, legs & laces = perfection!

Reply

13 Kristina January 7th, 2011 at 6:09 am

Funny you mention that Ashleigh, because I packed the tights knowing I wanted to contrast the red against the snow. But I didn't even realize there was so much more red in the outfit than just the tights!

P.S….my boyfriend wants me to correct myself and remind everyone that the tights are in fact, maroon, the color of his college team and my rival school.

Even if you are freezing it is TOTALLY worth these shots!! They are fabulous and I have been trying to get sun flare shots on my own forever I feel like, not yet! LOL

I LOVE the coat!!!!

I'll do a tutorial on the blog soon – they're really easy once you understand the technicalities of it. Do you have a digital SLR?

Well who is going to fault you for wearing Erik's boots. I think that is really sweet. My grandma tried to pass on her fur coat and I grew up thinking it was super creepy. Needless to say, I didn't take it. I agree with your policy though!

PS I live in MN where it is -20F and I understand about not wearing tights and I dress. I sometimes even wear tights/leggings under my pants just for walking the dog and going to my car…

Reply

18 Kristina January 7th, 2011 at 6:06 am

Totally, Erin!! We wore long-handled underwear (top and bottom) under all jeans & ski pants. So to wear tights felt essentially like going out in the cold in my underwear.

I live in MN now, but like a true Wisconsinite, I continue to wear dresses and tights every day in the winter, even the -20 days. I'm not bothered by the cold anymore. If done right- I am always warmer in my dress than I am those few days I wear pants! Layer tights and tall boots!

That coat, and those tights, are absolutely divine.

You look super adorable in this outfit. Since I don't own many pants, I often subject my poor legs to freezing cold each winter. Also, I totally understand your feelings on the fur boots.

Thank you Linley, that's so sweet of you to say! :) Erik's feet are a size 10 (men's), so I was stomping around like Bigfoot or something…they were huge! I may or may not have marched up to every. single. family member demanding them to tell me, "Do my feet look huge in these?"

This is a lovely outfit–I love the red tights with the coat! Wish you could give my photographer a tip or two! If the outfit is too cold, that should be a perfect excuse for a follow up sauna!

Agree on the vintage fur thing… it's been my policy for a while (not like I have any fur thanks to that whole cash thing…). And girl! You're braver than me! In that weather, I would have stopped on the doorstep, turned around, and run back to my bed to hide under the covers!!

Super cute – sometimes you have to risk hypothermia for fashion, right?! I really love the colored tights and gray dress combo – and you have been working that coat ever since you got it :)

HB's photos are looking so professional! Wish I could figure out photography…

I *love* that coat, especially with that colour of tights. Having never even seen snow before, I can't imagine going outside in temperatures as cold as that!

Oh my gosh, never seen snow before? Having spent most of my Christmases in Norway since I was 6 months old, I can't even fathom never having been in real snow! You need to experience that at least once in your life. I'll take you.

Hahahaha, damn girl. I don't care what you say, you look amazing and I love this outfit. So maybe you're a touch on the crazy…I've been called worse. And I'd pick batshit insane and looking like a rockstar over sane and appropriately dressed any day.
