Tweed It Up

I had heard a lot of great things about my city’s #1 “best resale shop” so I decided I had to check it out one afternoon after work. The shop was filled with tons of treasures: everything from fur coats to women’s and men’s clothing to shoes and purses to housewares, jewelry, and furniture. It was so crowded! The place is hopping, that’s for sure!

I picked up a beautifully tarnished silver goblet to store my rings in on my dresser, a new-with-tags $160 silk shirt for $9, and this tweed blazer, a beautiful petite cut with cream, pink, and grey colors. It’s a bit boxy so I belted it around the waist, and it doesn’t have buttons (on purpose, I think) but I think it’s the perfect business casual jacket. I’ve been wanting something tweed for a long time so when I came across this lovely jacket I couldn’t pass it up.

Oh, and I’m wearing my LuShae ring on my left ring finger, but I’m not married. I just ran out of ring fingers.

You’ve seen the boots before (here and here), the jeans several times (here here & here), and the top as well (here, here & here).

thrifted wool tweed jacket | free people lace top & sam edelman shoes c/o karmaloop | nyds necklace | james jeans | bag c/o shop mamie | marc jacobs sunnies c/o shop bop | f21 ring

While I wouldn’t wear the jeans to work or an interview, the lace, studs, and sparkles on my crystal necklace all let my individual style shine through while still looking put-together.

Do you have to dress professionally for work or other occasions? If so, how do you let your style shine through while still looking professional?

The social bar above is my tip jar. Pin, Like, and Tweet if you please!

Love, Kristina

Is that a necklace or part of the shirt? Either way I love it, big and sparkly!

It's actually a necklace from the now-defunct New York Design Shop – it was only $10, an amazing steal…

Oh. Emm. Gee. LOVE IT! I know I've seen that blazer somewhere! I could pull the blazer off at work, worn with black pants and heels! Those Sam Edelman's are HOT! How do you NOT fall and break your neck walking in them?

Yes, I have to dress professionally for work. As a designer in an ad agency, and as a woman in a man's field, it's important to be modest and a little dressed up to be taken seriously. I let my style shine through with pairing interesting colors together, and creative takes on traditional clothes like knit blazers. I just got some paper bag pants I can't wait to wear to work!

Check out my fashion blog for photos!

What store in Houston did you go to? I live here too and am always looking for a good place to thrift!

I went to a resale shop called The Guild Shop, operated by St. John the Divine. It's pretty neat!

Great outfit! Can't wait to find out what shop you went to and check it out! Before I started freelancing I worked in a Marketing Dept. of a magazine, so professional dressing was a must. However, we also had the unique challenge of having to set up for events (UGH, heavy lifting), or just have all around loooong days. My go-to outfit was leggings, a nice tunic or dress, cardigan and flats in my bag!

"The Guild Shop" – operated by St. John the Divine. It's got such a wide range of items (not just clothes)! They do have odd hours though, so be sure to call in advance.
